Upcoming Events

This week we are hosting the local Primary School Football league for all our feeder schools. Teams from Year 5 and 6 are playing 7 a side football on our astro turf pitch each Wednesday this half term and are battling out to lift the Ushaw Moor league title.

Some of our GCSE PE students will be gaining valuable leadership skills as they help run the Primary School Sports Hall Athletics championships held in the Bobby Robson Sports Centre in November. Feeder primary schools will be sending teams of 20 pupils to run, jump and throw as they attempt to qualify for the County Finals.

The annual Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships take place at Fram School in November and our budding Mo Farah’s and Paula Radcliffe’s will be getting their chance to shine in PE lessons this half term. Teams of 6 from each year group will be getting on the bus to Framwellgate to attempt to finish in the top 16 and go on to represent Durham City in the County Finals.

We are very fortunate to have four high class trampolines on our Ushaw Moor site. These will be used for curriculum lessons, lunchtime enrichment sessions and will be a great help for our GCSE PE students who will be able to practice and refine their routines in preparation for the Practical Moderation exam which takes place early next year.

Our Year 10 and 11 GCSE students will be able to gain National Governing Body awards and add valuable experience to the CV’s as they can apply for the County Durham Leadership Academy this term. The chosen applicants are invited to join the countywide team and are awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze awards depending on the number of voluntary hours that they complete over the coming year.

Other sporting competitions occuring this term are the Key Stage Four Badminton Championships held at Belmont School and the Year 7-8 Sports Hall Athletics Championships which are hosted by ourselves in the Bobby Robson Sports Centre.

Also Year 7 have a County Cup Football competition taking place this month and the Year 11 team play Monkseaton High School in the first round of the English Schools FA Cup.
