THE NATIONAL JUNIOR INDOOR ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS took place at Lee Valley Sports Centre in London earlier this month. It is the biggest indoor rowing competition in the world. Up to 3000 children and teens between the ages of 11-18 years race in individual and team events in the hope of being crowned National Champion. Marc in Year 8 had qualified through school rounds last October and then two regional competitions at Maiden Castle. There were about 150 Year 8 students in his particular race and in several heats they tried to row as far as they could in 2 minutes. Marc has been training with Durham University’s rowing coaches and finished in 3rd position – out of the entire Great Britain area. Congratulations to him and very well done for gaining a bronze medal.
