The U16 Durham Federation football team reached the final 64 of the English School’s Football Association PlayStation National Cup. The match took place away at North Shore Academy in Stockton and turned out to be a game of two halves. The long journey there after school obviously took it’s toll on the College players as they were slightly sluggish out of the blocks in the first half. North Shore proved to be very strong and with some fortunate bounces and close decisions went into the lead early on. The second half was a different story entirely, with our boys in lime running, tackling, passing and shooting. For long stretches of the game, the Fed boys were the better team, shots rained in from all angles as their goalkeeper was forced to make save after save. Unfortunately, our brave team from Durham was unable to make a sufficient comeback and so returned to the school minibus with their heads held high having shown a fantastic fighting spirit, playing the game with great determination and sportsmanship.
