Awesome Athletics Achievements

On Wednesday this week students from both Colleges headed down to the Riverside Athletics track to take art in the annual Durham Central Schools Athletics Championships. This is a very competitive event with 12 schools from the Durham area taking part in the full range of track and field disciplines. The top two competitors in each event will then qualify for the County Durham Finals which take place on Saturday 10th June at Monkton Stadium. From Hurdles to High Jump, from Sprinting to Shot Putt, our students put in some great performances with many Personal Bests being recorded. Top performers were James Thornton who won the Javelin competition with a throw of over 32 metres, Ellie Harris who won the 100m sprint despite being a year younger than everyone in 13.1 seconds and Emma Brown 0 again a year young – who was 3rd in the 800m in a time of 2 min 58 seconds. Congratulations to all those who participated.
